Hawker Beechcraft 390 Jet Crashed Killing Five Of The Seven Onboard

February 21, 2013 - On Wednesday night about 8:30 PM local time a Hawker Beechcraft 390/Premier I crashed at Thomson-McDuffie County Airport in Thomson, Georgia killing five of the seven people onboard. McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall said the aircraft was completely demolished and there was a fire at the crash site. 

The light jet aircraft, tail number N777VG had departed John C. Tune Airport in Nashville, Tennessee just before 6:30 PM, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen the aircraft ran off the end of the 5,503 foot long runway after landing. 

 

McDuffie County Sheriff Department reported that the pilot and copilot survived the crash. The Hawker Beechcraft 390 overshot the runway and crashed in the woods about a mile east of the airport. The aircraft owners are listed as Pavilion Group, LLC, of Delaware. 

Thomson-McDuffie Regional Airport is the largest general aviation facility in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) which includes 13-counties region in the U.S. state of Georgia and five counties. The airport has one runway, 10/28. The runway is 5503 feet long and 100 feet wide. 

Thomson-McDuffie County Sheriff Department reported that the two pilots were taken to area hospitals, their conditions are unknown at this time and the names of those killed in the crash were being withheld pending notification of family members.

The Beechcraft Premier I is a light jet aircraft made by the Beechcraft division of Hawker Beechcraft. The aircraft was designed to compete with the Cessna CitationJet series of aircraft. The aircraft is constructed with high-strength composite, carbon fiber/epoxy honeycomb fuselage. The powerplants are two turbo-fan Williams International FJ44-2A engines. The Premier I basic version, was introduced in 2001. This aircraft was manufactured in 2007.
