Bechtel and McCarran staff incorporated the
latest aviation technology into the planning and
design of the new terminal to help increase
efficiency and reduce waiting times. This
includes 100 percent common-use systems to
enable airlines to time-share facilities based
upon their operational times and new
self-boarding gates to speed up boarding.
New automated aircraft docking systems also
allow pilots to precisely align with a passenger
loading bridge requiring minimal ramp staff
support. Dynamic signage is provided by more
than 1,100 LCDs and LED screens which enable
wayfinding, passenger information, and airline
branding with up to the minute information.
"Building Terminal 3 while the rest of the
airport was still operational was challenging
but our longstanding partnership with the Clark
County Department of Aviation has been
instrumental to our completion of this project
on schedule," added Don Wright, Bechtel's
project manager at McCarran International
Airport.
The new terminal will increase capacity of the
airport to 53 million passengers per year as
compared with the 2007 peak of nearly 48 million
passengers.
Bechtel has been working with Clark County
Department of Aviation managing the six-phase
modification, upgrade, and expansion plan at
McCarran International Airport since 1981.
Bechtel is a global leader in aviation
infrastructure and has managed more than 40
major airport projects in the past decade. The
company is currently working on New Doha
International Airport, Muscat International
Airport, and the Gatwick Airport Expansion
project.
