Miami Air Traffic Control Tower Finally Opens

Dec 10, 2002, the new Miami Air Traffic Control Tower finally opens only after it fixes blind spots (MIA Air Traffic Controllers Refuse To Man Tower  February 22, 2000). The blind spots are gone and Miami International Airport's new control tower is finally open for air traffic.

It took six years of planning, construction and reconstruction to erect the new taller tower. The $24.9 million structure opened Monday -- 1.5 years overdue and $5 million over budget. The top of the tower had to be rebuilt after air traffic controllers found that support beams were blocking their view. (Early History)
