January 9, 2012 - San Diego Sheriff's Homicide investigators continue with the investigation into the shooting that took place on Park Place in Coronado which left four people dead in a murder-suicide in the early morning hours of New Year's Day. 

At about 2:20 AM, January 1, 2012, David Andrew Reis age 25, a Navy pilot, Karen Elizabeth Reis sister to David age 24, and Matthew Saturley age 31 had been shot to death after an evening out at a nightclub with the group by John Robert Reeves age 25 who is also a navy pilot who then took his own life with a gun shot to the head.  

The autopsies reveled that David Reis, was killed by a gunshot wound to the torso, his sister, Karen, was shot in the head and chest and Matthew Saturley was shot multiple times. 

Karen Reis, lived in San Diego, she coached volleyball twice a week to children 12 and younger, and worked at a local grocery store. Genuine Volleyball Club's website reported Reis she was completing course work toward becoming an occupational therapist. Marc Lomeli, director of volleyball club stated "She was onto great stuff. She had incredible passion for the game. She had a patience and calm persistence with the kids to really work with them to reach their potential.? 

David Reis and John Reeves were both stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. The military has reported that U.S. Navy pilot Lt. John R. Reeves, of Prince Frederick, Maryland and U.S. Navy Lt. David A. Reis, Bakersfield, California were both Navy officers flying F/A-18 aircraft and assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, Marine Aircraft Group 11, Third Marine Aircraft Wing. Reeves was commissioned in the Navy through ROTC at Penn State University on May 23, 2008 and Reis was commissioned in the Navy through ROTC at the University of New Mexico on December 19, 2008. Both were awarded the National Defense Service Medal. 

New information revealed may suggest that Reeves had psychological problems and that there were some warning signs. Reeves wrote on social network sites disturbing messages that may offer some clues as to his state of mind just before the murder suicide. "I unintentionally screw people over on a regular basis" and "whenever I try to do something nice to help people out, it goes horribly wrong, and everyone would have been better off if I just kept to myself." However, friends of Reeves reported he was focused, this behavior was uncharacteristic of him, he was upbeat and optimistic, he was happy with his training and loving it, and looking forward to his future.
