One customer has said "There was no bang, no
explosion, and then there was what seemed like
smoke, and we were all joking that the band had
made the roof come down”. On
Saturday, as the Eurocopter remained in the
middle of the building, rescue workers searched
for the dead and survivors. Witnesses reported
just before the crash the police helicopter
spiraled down, dropping from the sky like a
brick.
Scotland’s Police Chief, Constable Stephen House
said "We are still in a rescue and recovery
situation, until the helicopter is out of the
way we won't know what is going on underneath." On
Saturday First Minister Alex Salmond said "this
is a black day for Glasgow and for Scotland," as
this was Saint Andrew's Day.
This is a day in which the Scottish people
celebrate Saint Andrew, a patron saint which is
celebrated on November 30th. Saint
Andrew's Day it is Scotland’s official national
day. Celebrations in Glasgow were canceled as
flags were flown at half-mast on government
buildings. A special mass was held at Glasgow's
Roman Catholic cathedral.
