John Travolta’s Ex-Pilot To Get His Day In Court After Talks Of Writing A Tell All Book

July 23, 2014 - Douglas Gotterba a former pilot for John Travolta’s airline company, Alto has indicated through an interview with the National Enquirer that he would like to write and publish a tell all book.

Gotterba has indicated that his relationship with Travolta was more than just a business relationship.

Gotterba gained employment with Travolta's Alto airlines back in 1981. He remained with the company until 1987. Upon his departure from the company he signed a termination agreement. This agreement has become the center of the case.

Travolta’s attorney Martin Singer contends the termination agreement contained a confidentiality agreement that he signed which covered his employment with the actor. However, Gotterba disagreed that his termination agreement contained such a confidentiality clause.

Travolta’s attorney informed Gotterba that “You proceed at your peril. We demand that you immediately cease and desist from your wrongful course of conduct which has subjected you to enormous liability and entitles my client to seek tens of millions of dollars in compensatory and punitive damages”.

Travolta’s attorney indicated that there were two agreements signed upon his departure from the company, one on March 17, 1987 and one on April 3, 1987 and that the latter agreement contained clauses preventing Gotterba from discussing his time with the company. Gotterba states that the March 17, 1987, four-page termination agreement "is not authentic," that he did not execute that agreement.

The April 3, 1987 agreement allegedly states - You hereby represent that you have not and will not disclose, communicate, use, nor permit the use of, in any fashion, any personal (i.e., those matters not customarily disclosed by Employer other than to insiders, in the case of [Atlo], or close friends in the case of Travolta), confidential or proprietary information about Employer or any principals of Employer that you obtained during your employment with Employer (Gotterba legal response).

Gotterba continued to discuss his plans to write the book, "tell the story of his life and those involved in it," including his personal relationship with Travolta”. According to Gotterba, he was "unwillingly thrust" into the gossip tabloids by public revelations from another former Travolta employee. As a result Travolta’s attorney filed a cease-and-desist order and filed a anti-SLAPP motion to stop Gotterba's complaint. However, on Tuesday Justice Arthur Gilbert of the California Courts of Appeal in Second District gave Gotterba approval to present his case before the court. The attorney for Travolta stated 'While we believe the court should have thrown out Gotterba’s lawsuit at the outset, ultimately, he will not prevail on his claim.

John Travolta addressed his former pilots lawsuit which alleged alleged a sexual relationship by stating “This is every celebrity’s Achilles heel. It’s just about people wanting money. That’s all. It happens on many levels.”

Update - September 18, 2014 - Gotterba responds to Travolta's comments he said "What John Travolta said about me in a recent interview is an inaccurate description of what our court case is about. Our dispute is purely about declaratory relief and will be a non-monetary judgment. This is about the truth and my right for a court to decide who is telling the truth, not for Mr. Travolta to make a judgment."

Gotterba has alleged he and Travolta enjoyed a sexual relationship when he was under his employment. Travolta's attorneys had suggested that Gotterba signed a confidentiality agreement which precludes Gotterba from speaking about their relationship or employment activities. However in July a California appeals court ruled that Gotterba would be able to argue his case that he does not have a confidentiality agreement with Travolta.

In 2009, a cruise ship attendant, Fabian Zanzi who was assigned  to be Travolta's personal attendant claimed in a federal lawsuit that John Travolta sexually assaulted him during a Caribbean cruise. Zanzi accused the Travolta of "harmful and offensive contact" by "removing his bath robe, grabbing plaintiff's hand, and forcing his naked person and erect penis against plaintiff's person."
