May 2, 2013 - About 1:35 PM on Thursday,
passengers in Terminal B at Bush
Intercontinental Airport (IAH) encountered a
gunman who had apparently committed suicide by a
self inflicted gunshot to the head. Passengers
throughout the terminal scrambled fearing it was
a terrorist attack.
The lone gunman who has been identified as
29 year old Carnell Marcus Moore
was transported to an area
hospital. There are no reports of injuries to
any of the passengers nor other persons
involved. Terminal B was quickly shut down to
passengers and to aircraft, and rerouted to
Terminals A, C, D and E.
It has been reported that the gunman first shot
into the ceiling near the ticket counter. When
confronted by Homeland Security the gunman
reportedly shot himself in the head. He died at
an area hospital.
At 4:24 PM, Terminal B was reopened for
departing passengers that had already been
screened by TSA. Terminal B ticketing lobby and
TSA security checkpoint remained closed.
By 5:12
PM Terminal B was reopened for arriving flights,
the U-ramp and lobby were opened to the public
but TSA security checkpoint and ticketing
counters remained closed. United Airlines
passengers are being advised to check-in at
either Terminals C or E and proceed through to
the TSA checkpoint for screening.
Houston Police Department (HPD) spokesperson,
Kese Smith told reporters that the HPD received
a call at 1:35 PM which indicated that there had
been a discharge of a firearm and shots came
from the ticket counter area in Terminal B at
Bush Intercontinental Airport. He further stated
the gun man had just entered Terminal B when he
fired at least two shots into the ceiling.
