September 1, 2014 - On Sunday a 1994 Piper
Malibu Mirage, PA 46-350P (N228LL) crashed while
attempting to land at the Erie Municipal
Airport, Colorado killing all five onboard.
The Piper had departed the airport earlier in
the morning, flew up to Centennial Airport and
then was returning back to Erie Municipal
Airport when it developed what witnesses heard
sounded like engine problems "sputtering."
At about 11:50 AM, local time, the Piper crashed
upside-down into a grassy field a few hundred
yards northwest of the runway. Some of the
onboard passengers had been ejected from the
aircraft.
The pilot and owner of the aircraft has been
identified as Oliver Frascona. A real estate
lawyer that lives adjacent to the airport in
subdivision called Erie Airpark which was
designed as a residential area for homeowners
with private airplanes.
Onboard the aircraft was Frascona, his girlfriend
41 year-old Tori Rains-Wedan
and her three children
15 year-old Mason Wedan and 11 year-old twins
Austin and Hunter Wedan. Aalso onboard was the
family dog.
